Collectors comments

This large and heavy napkin ring shows all the characteristics of a piece of artist silver from the second half of the 20'th century. It was bought from a dealer in Boston. The ornaments on the sides are similar to ornaments seen on two unmarked, American nakin rings sold on e-bay 1900-1905. Also the 900 silver of this napkin ring is the old standard for US coin silver. Is there a German-US connection involved ?

The bone plaque seems to be an original schrimshaw piece depicting a small city.

Does anyone recognise the city ?

Modern makers marks are not wery well recorded. If anyone knows the name behind the makers mark on this napkin ring please send a mail to napkinrings@mail.dk.

According to a German federal act in effect from 1888 the national mark on German silver is struck by the maker rather than by a controlling institution. That explains the handmade look of this version of of the half moon and crown.
